Village des arts
Résidence d’artistes. À quelques mètres du stade Léopold Sédar Senghor, à Yoff, le Village des Arts de Dakar est ouvert tous les jours de l’année au public.
Les 52 ateliers, sur une superficie de 4 hectares, étaient au départ des logements pour les ouvriers chinois qui ont travaillé à la construction du stade. Après leur départ, en 1998, à la demande d’artistes issus de l’Ecole des Beaux Arts de Dakar et autodidactes, ces maisons leur ont été octroyées par le ministère de la Culture.
Son occupation est variable. A chaque visite on découvre des artistes différents, qui laissent leurs portes ouvertes et échangent avec plaisir avec les visiteurs sur leurs inspirations, leur parcours. Des créateurs d’avant gardes ou plus classiques, de découvertes inédites à des piliers incontournables de l’art sénégalais contemporain comme El Hadj Sy, à qui une rétrospective a été consacrée en Allemagne, le Village des Arts surprend toujours. Il comprend 52 ateliers, occupés en résidence de création permanente ou temporaire par des artistes de toutes disciplines (peinture, sculpture, céramique, photographie, vidéo, installation), sénégalais et étrangers, sélectionnés par le ministère de la Culture. Les artistes résidents sont organisés en association.
Dans la Galerie Léopold Sédar Senghor, de 300 m2, les expositions sont renouvelées mensuellement, toute l’année, avec des œuvres d’artistes du Village, mais pas seulement. Le Village accueille aussi des visites scolaires, et comprend des ateliers de sculpture, de céramique, de sous-verre, qui ne manquent pas d’intéresser petits et grands. Moussa Sakho, un des maîtres du sous-verre, par exemple, sait présenter son art avec pédagogie. Cet artiste humaniste œuvre aussi auprès des enfants malades dans les hôpitaux à qui il apporte le bonheur de créer. A cette vivacité créative s’ajoute le fait que le lieu est agréable, verdoyant, une vraie parenthèse de quiétude dans l’urbanité dakaroise.

I LOVE THIS PLACE ! I go there often and just took my 8yr old grandson there during Spring Break 2026, and now, he’s a fan too. I will continue to take my children and children in my neighborhood as well to VDA to enhance their perspective on the rich art and cultural history we have here in Senegal. We are surrounded daily by beautiful architecture, lovely and first class sculpture and paintings in and around office buildings and private homes and functional, recycled and upcycled art all over the city/country, so yes, they are automatically exposed to the work of very talented people daily, but they are unknown to them.
Village Des Arts is different and really something special, a JEWEL in the diamond of Africa, Dakar and VDA is such a unique experience. I have been there at least 50 or 60 times over the years, if not more and I never tire of seeing the artists and watching them work.
If you live in Senegal and you have never been, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you go. The gallery is free and so are the artists’ studios and it’s conveniently located on Route du Aeroport by Ker Yoff and Senecartours. There are beautiful flower gardens at the entrance across from Touba Oil and be sure to stop and look at the colorful roses that the young man running that spot has cross pollinated by hand to create colors you won’t normally see in nature.
From the entrance to the exit, VDA is FOR SURE TOP THREE of the things to see in Senegal !
My only complaint - well, comment, is that it should be replicated in the Toubab Diallo/Yene area, about 15 minutes from the airport, where the new Port of Ndayane will be located. With the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic events being held in and around the Diamniadio area, having another Village Des Arts community will add more color and community to the activities around the Port. With cruise ships docking thre regularly, along with the longshoremen on the container ship vessels as well, it will give everyone something interesting to do while in the region, in addition to the families and local people living in Ngaparou, Sindia, Saly and other places as well as regular tourists staying in the Toubab Diallo/Yene and Diamniadio area.

Moi je fais la 3 Et je veux faire l ars .depuis mon enfance je rêve l ars. Et je veux l egjocier mon rêve.

J’adore ce lieu, et comment faire pour venir avec les élèves de cp pour visiter et faire un atelier de peinture...

Bs je suis très attache des œuvres d’art surtout la peinture jaimerai suivre des cours comment faire merci
